Reading

Reading is a superpower. On the surface, reading transports us to fantastical worlds of myth and adventure. We stand with heroes and wrestle against villains. Sea captains pilot the ships of our mind into uncharted waters and historians guide us through the underground tunnels of Washington D.C. The pages of a book have a marvelous way of sucking us into new realities.

Our culture is soaked through with positive aphorisms about reading and most would be hard-pressed to find someone who truly thought reading was bad and you should do it less. Yet, how many people display a genuine and good reading habit in their daily life? This isn’t because reading isn’t good. It’s because reading is hard.

This essay is going to present a layman’s view of the literary landscape and explore why and how one should read.
